La Manga receives a fresh burst of colour as fiestas get underway
New greenery and festive decorations have been installed as Plaza Bohemia enjoys five days of music, food and family entertainment

La Manga del Mar Menor is getting a fresh burst of colour just as its annual fiestas get underway, with 350 new plants and six decorative features installed across the resort.
The improvements have been carried out through the East Coast maintenance contract in collaboration with Trecarsa, with the aim of giving public spaces a more attractive and welcoming appearance for residents and visitors.
The new planting includes 300 purple Tradescantia plants, also known as purple heart, along with 50 Chlorophytum plants. Four decorative planters and two ornamental hoops featuring dehydrated plants have also been installed.
The makeover comes as La Manga prepares for five days of celebrations, with the fiestas running from Wednesday until Sunday September 20.
Plaza Bohemia will be at the centre of the action, with a programme packed with live music, food, children's activities, competitions and entertainment for all ages. The festivities are being supported by Cartagena City Council, San Javier Town Council and the La Manga Consortium.
The celebrations will get underway with the opening speech by Juan Pérez, an athletics instructor from La Manga, before a packed programme of entertainment takes over the resort.
Music will feature heavily, with concerts and tribute performances dedicated to artists including The Beatles and Extremoduro, alongside the Maritim Fest and a performance by local band Los Fluidos.
There will also be DJs, cooking workshops, children's activities and competitions throughout the celebrations, giving families plenty to choose from during the five-day event.
The traditional fireworks display will provide another highlight before the fiestas draw to a close with a motorcycle rally.
With the new planting and decorations now in place, La Manga is getting a colourful refresh just in time for one of the resort's biggest annual celebrations.
