ARCHIVED - La Sella Golf in Denia reopens after extensive landscaping of facilities
La Sella Golf reopens its 27 holes following a remodelling of the Mestral course in the Marina Alta, Alicante province
La Sella Golf in Denia has reopened its 27 holes after an extensive aesthetic and agronomic reform of the nine-hole Mestrel course.
Over the last few months, the course has undergone major landscaping, with changes to the pitch and putt and bunkers, modifications to the greens on holes one and nine, as well as the short game area, and the installation of a “new, modern irrigation system”.
The project also included the resizing and renovation of all the tees, new drains in low spots and areas of waterlogging, and improvements to the entire playing surface.
The existing bermudagrass has been cleaned and the seeding has been reinforced in areas with less dense grass.
As with the improvements to the Gregal and Llebeig courses, work on the Mestral course has been supervised by the course designer, Prince of Asturias Sports Prize winner José María Olazábal, following a “comprehensive agronomic plan” drawn up in conjunction with Olazábal Golf Design.
Whilst La Sella is open to golfers ahead of Community of Valencia Day on October 9, an official opening ceremony will take place in November, “with members and friends of the course for the last 30 years”.
La Sella, an official venue for major tournaments, has undergone numerous improvements over the last three years, including a renovation of the driving range in 2018, the Llebeig course in 2019 and Gregal in 2020.
