Lorca park undergoes major refurbishment
More than 120 trees have been planted at at La Salud park in the hamlet of La Hoya and furniture has been given a new lease of life

The Parque de La Salud, in the hamlet of La Hoya, Lorca, has undergone improvement and refurbishment works over the last few months in preparation for La Candelaria (Candlemas) fiesta on Thursday February 2.
Some 120 pine trees and two carob varieties have been planted, benches, tables, railings and children's games, barbecues have been repaired and a pedestrian stepping stone access has been created.
Lorca Mayor, Diego José Mateos, visited the park this week to see the improvements first-hand, accompanied by a large group of La Hoya residents and the councillors for Local Development and Pedanías, Isabel Casalduero and Antonio Navarro, respectively.
"We wanted to see for ourselves the work carried out and are delighted to find the park in perfect condition and ready to host Thursday's popular pilgrimage of La Salud and the celebration of the Candelaria festivities," said the mayor.

In addition to the trees, 200 shrubs and 100 pine seedlings have been planted on slopes and in the vicinity of the mountain. Fifty metres of stone breakwater, two stone staircases and pedestrian access sleepers have been built, and all the ditches have been raked and cleaned.
Red gravel has been spread over the 7,000m2 that make up the platforms and the irrigation heads, and the irrigation network and chambers have been replaced throughout the park.
The Department of Employment and Local Development began the reformation last October, in partnership with the Regional Councils, Mixed Employment and Training Programmes Oficios 4 and Entreparques, as well as the various municipal carpentry and locksmith workshops.
"The adaptation and improvement of Parque de La Salud was very important as it is a space for meetings, leisure and recreation and is visited daily by a multitude of citizens from all corners of the municipality. Now we can continue to enjoy this wonderful park for many years to come," added the mayor.
