Lorca works towards building more houses in the city centre
Lorca will be promoted as an affordable, safe and attractive place for younger home buyers
An important meeting was held this week between the mayor of Lorca, the Minister of Development and Infrastructure and the Regional Confederation of Business Organisations to discuss the pressing needs of the community.
The team has identified several key areas of need, including the development of industry, improving communication infrastructure and, above all, finding a solution to the lack of affordable housing in the historic city centre.
To tackle this last issue, the council has agreed to create a comprehensive ‘Strategic Housing Plan’ that will prioritise the development of residential properties in the area, ensuring that locals have access to safe, affordable and quality living spaces. This initiative is expected to have a significant positive impact on the community, addressing a longstanding concern for many residents.
“As you know, this is an absolute priority for this Government team. We are already working, specifically on two plots, to build housing through the municipal company Land and Housing (Suvilor) and the General Directorate of Housing is also going to launch projects and instruments for the City Council itself and for the developers with the aim of continuing to intensify the increase in the housing stock in the historic centre of Lorca,” Mayor Fulgencio Gil stressed.
“We all agree that the future of the historic centre depends on the development of the Strategic Plan,” he said, adding that the next four years will definitively change the face of the city for the better.
In particular, the council wants to promote the city centre as an attractive place for younger people to live, while understanding that the cost could be an obstacle. Unfortunately, housing construction costs are higher in Lorca than other areas that are more accessible for construction companies and heavy machinery, but this is something the Plan hopes to address in the very near future.
