ARCHIVED - Lorry bursts into flames at Alicante service station in Villena
The driver was taking a break in the car park in Villena, Alicante province, when the fire broke out.
Alicante firefighters had to flood the interior of the lorry, which was transporting used batteries, with foam to control the blaze last night, Tuesday, May 25.
The fire started at around 10.40pm after the driver had pulled up in the service station car park on the A-31 to rest, and was finally extinguished at 12.30am.
A Headquarters Command Unit (UMJ), a Heavy Rural Pump (BRP) and a Heavy Nurse Pump (BNP) from the Villena and Elda fire stations were all deployed to tackle the fire due to the potentially hazardous materials involved.
