ARCHIVED - Magnitude 2.6 earthquake recorded off the coast of Alicante city
This is the 25th quake to strike in Alicante province so far this year

Seismic movement was recorded off the coast of Alicante registering 2.6 on the Richter scale on Thursday night, March 16.
The tremor occurred at 10.27pm, about 100 km from Alicante city shoreline and about 55 km from the island of Formentera.
According to the National Geographic Institute (IGN), the epicentre was located at a depth of 6 km.
This is the 25th quake higher than 1.5 magnitude recorded in Alicante province so far this year, and the sixth located on the coast of Alicante city.
The province, along with the Region of Murcia and the entire Spanish Levante, are located in an area of friction between the Eurasian and Arabian plates, which makes this area one of high seismic activity.
