ARCHIVED - Making a splash: Naked Brits caught on camera frolicking in puddles in Benidorm
Watch the hilarious footage of Brits behaving badly after a downpour in the Alicante resort
Spain is experiencing one of its driest years in recent history and while farmers might be praying for a bit of relief, a group of British tourists decided to do their own rain dance after a sudden and unusually heavy downpour in Benidorm at the weekend.
The skies opened at around 2am on Sunday September 18, drowning hoards of revellers who were thronging the streets around the bars and restaurants in the popular holiday resort. Undeterred, the frisky foreigners stripped off and began splashing each other with the rain water that had formed huge puddles in the road, with one stripping off his shorts and pretending to swim.
Most people saw the funny side, with one Instagram user quipping that Britons baring all shows “Benidorm at its essence any night.”
Another added: “Just a normal night in Benidorm. With or without rain.”
However, the video, which has already received more than 900 ‘likes’ on @benidorm.memeshit, has divided opinion, with many criticising the UK holidaymakers for their bawdy behaviour.
One wrote: “I am sure they would not do that in their country,” while another claimed that “They look like wild pigs.”
“Have some shame please,” a third added.
The Costa Blanca town is a popular spot with Britons and its world-famous night-life particularly draws stage and hen parties every year. Last month, images of a stag wrapped to a lamppost with cling film, buck naked and with a sign reading ‘Kiss or Slap €1’, quickly went viral. Not everyone was impressed by the antics though, and a spokesperson for the hotel association Abreca complained that some British tourists are “complicated to control”, with many believing that “there are no laws here”.
