ARCHIVED - Man dies after falling from the top of the Muralla del Mar wall in Cartagena
Police currently believe it was an accidental death that happened when the man, aged 40, fell while walking along the calle Muralla del Mar
A 40-year-old man died in Cartagena this Saturday, September 17, after falling from the top of the Muralla de Carlos III wall. The incident is thought to have happened over night near the steps of the wall, as the body was found on the grass in the early hours of the morning.
While National Police are currently investigating the causes of the fall, a preliminary inspection has led them to announce that “the hypothesis of an accidental fall”.
It is believed that the man may have lost his balance while walking along Muralla del Mar street, at the top of the Carlos III monument.

An autopsy is being carried out at the Murcia Institute of Legal Medicine to try and find out more about the cause of death.
The Carlos III wall dates back to the 18th century, and is one of the most recognisable landmarks in Cartagena.
The incident has caused consternation amongst the local population due to the busy area where the body was found, so close to the port.
