Man investigated for animal abuse after sick dog found in Ulea scrapyard
Guardia Civil and Policía Local intervene as dog suffers untreated illness in poor conditions

The animal was seen struggling to walk, with severe skin peeling and bleeding sores on its ears, raising immediate concerns about its wellbeing. Emergency veterinary care revealed the dog suffered from leishmaniasis, a serious parasitic disease that requires ongoing and careful treatment. Despite this, the investigation shows the dog had not received any veterinary care or attempt to alleviate its suffering prior to the intervention.
Unfortunately, the dog’s condition deteriorated rapidly and it eventually died despite receiving treatment after the operation. The owner now faces allegations of animal abuse and has been cited for violations of laws regulating the ownership of potentially dangerous animals and the protection of animal rights and welfare.
This case highlights ongoing concerns over animal neglect and cruelty in the region, reinforcing the vital role of local law enforcement and veterinary services in safeguarding animal welfare. Cooperation between the Guardia Civil and Ulea Policá Local was key in rescuing the dog and initiating legal action to prevent further abuse.
