Mazarrón Council takes official control of waste collection company
The declaration of Bahía de Mazarrón Ingeniería Urbana 2007, S.L.U. as a municipal own means has been published in the BORM

Mazarrón Council has officially taken control of Bahía de Mazarrón Ingeniería Urbana 2007, S.L.U., the company responsible for municipal waste collection, street cleaning and related services. The move follows a proposal by Carmen Navarro, Mazarrón’s Councillor for Finance and Sanidad, who also oversees Camposol and other areas.
The Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia (BORM) has published the initial approval of the company’s declaration as a municipal own means, a step that will allow it to take on work directly from the council without the need for tendering processes. This includes contracts related to works, supplies, services and concessions, as long as they align with the company’s corporate purpose.
The proposal was initially approved during January’s ordinary plenary session, with votes in favour from the governing team (UIDM and PSOE). The opposition (PP and Vox) expressed their disagreement.
Once the process is finalised and if no objections are raised, the company’s statutes will be modified to reflect its new status and name. It will also be registered in the Inventory of State, Autonomous and Local Public Sector Entities, in accordance with current legislation.
Carmen Navarro defended the measure, stating that it would help “regularise and optimise” waste management in the municipality. She emphasised that the new structure would provide the council with greater control over the company’s operations, leading to “long-term improvements in service quality”.
Following the BORM’s publication, a 30-working-day public consultation period has now begun. During this time, residents and other interested parties can review the justification report and the draft modification of the company’s statutes at the municipal offices and the Council’s website. Any objections or comments can be submitted within this period.
Meanwhile, last week saw a significant clean-up effort in Camposol, with most, if not all, of the garbage bins and surrounding areas receiving attention.
