Mazarrón resident under investigation for illegal building on rural land
Guardia Civil accuses property owner of unapproved construction on protected land
The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation into a Mazarrón resident accused of unauthorised construction on protected rural land, potentially violating town planning and environmental regulations. Dubbed operation ‘Mobile Home’, the case involves alleged breaches of land management, historical preservation, and environmental protection laws.
This investigation started last year when SEPRONA, the environmental unit of the Guardia Civil, conducted inspections along the coast to spot unauthorised building on land designated for agriculture or livestock. Officers identified a plot of rural land in Mazarrón undergoing significant construction work.
According to reports, the landowner had built a concrete perimeter, installed terraces with stone walls, set up solar panels and moved earth to create a garden, all without the required permissions.
The project contravenes Mazarrón’s General Municipal Development Plan, which restricts construction activities on rural land. Local urban planning regulations, as per Murcia’s Law 13/2015, make it illegal to carry out construction without prior authorisation from the relevant authorities. The lack of proper permits could mean the actions taken on this land amount to a severe infringement under the law.
The Guardia Civil has completed this phase of the investigation, with the landowner now facing legal proceedings as the suspected perpetrator of offences against town planning, historical heritage and environmental laws.
