More mixed weather ahead: Spain weather forecast May 13-16
Temperatures will fall in most of Spain this week but it will still be very mild in the south
Weather outlook on Wednesday May 15
The arrival of an Atlantic front through the northwest of Spain created a game of two halves over the weekend – rain and storms in the north, scorching temperatures in excess of 30ºC in the south – and these unusual weather patterns look set to continue this week.
On Monday May 13, another front with cross northern Spain resulting in widespread downpours in the likes of Galicia and the Cantabrian coast, but the rest of the country should remain dry, with only a few cloudy spells.
There will be stark contrasts temperature-wise, though, as the thermometers are expected to drop well below 20ºC in much of the north, while the mercury in the likes of the Guadalquivir Valley should shoot up to 33ºC.
On Tuesday May 14 there will be a widespread and notable drop in temperatures as cooler air arrives from the North Atlantic. Thus, large areas of northern Spain could register a drop of up to 10ºC compared to the previous day.
In the extreme southeast of the country, on the contrary, temperatures will rise due to the arrival of superheated winds, and the south of Alicante and the Region of Murcia could exceed 30 to 32ºC.
The heaviest rains will be recorded again in Galicia, the Cantabrian Sea and the Pyrenees, but these storms could also spread to neighbouring municipalities.
The weather on Wednesday May 15 will continue to be unstable in the north, with abundant overcast skies and showers. It will be mostly clear in the rest of the country, with the exception of the Valencian Community, where it will be very cloudy in the morning with a chance of light rain.
Temperatures will fall across the board, especially along the east coast, but the thermometers should still hover around the mid to high 20s in large parts of the south.
A new Atlantic front will leave behind mostly cloudy skies on Thursday May 16 and yet more rain in most of the north. These showers could extend as far south as the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands.
While it’s still a bit too far ahead to predict with complete accuracy, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) believes the temperatures will rise slightly in northern Spain but fall in the rest of the country.
