ARCHIVED - Morocco reopens airspace with Spain
Flights from Spain were banned two months ago due to the Omicron variant
The Government of Morocco has announced that it will reopen its airspace for flights to and from Spain and the rest of the world on February 7 after closing the country off on November 29 to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant. According to the Moroccan Executive in a statement, the decision has been made in accordance with the recommendations of the scientific and technical committee.
With Spain currently at very high risk for Covid infections, it is not yet clear if any restrictions will apply to passengers arriving in Morocco, such as diagnostic tests or quarantine, but official sources have indicated that any conditions will be announced at a later date.
In the past 24 hours, a total of 5,560 infections and 33 deaths were registered in Morocco and the current positivity rate stands at 22.2%, but the country has now double jabbed 23 million of its 36 million citizens.
Health experts claimed earlier this week that the peak of the wave has been reached.
Just before Christmas, Morocco refused to reopen its borders to Spain, claiming that the government was lax in enforcing its Covid safety protocols in an “adequate and strict” manner.
