Murcia basks in the fourth warmest April since records began

The average daytime temperature in the Region of Murcia during the month was 22.8ºC

According to the experts at the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), most of Spain can look forward to higher than usual temperatures over the next couple of months, even if some areas of the north are in for yet more rain. However, the Region of Murcia has already been breaking records, recording the fourth hottest April since records began.

Over a span of the last 66 years, only 2023, 2014 and 1961 were warmer, with April 2026 notching up an average of 16.2ºC when both day and nighttime temperatures are taken into account. The record-breaking result, however, is largely driven by the heights the mercury reached during the day – a pretty balmy 22.8ºC on average. That’s almost two and a half degrees higher than what meteorologists would expect.

This pleasant heat will no doubt come as welcome news to the hoards of holidaymakers who flock to the Region of Murcia every spring and summer. And there’s even more to entice visitors this month, since the Region has just been awarded a record 41 Blue Flags for its beautiful beaches and marinas, five more than in 2025.

For anyone who splashed through storm after spring storm, though, it should come as no surprise that rainfall was also much higher throughout April, reaching 26.3 litres per square metres. According to Aemet, after three consecutive exceptionally dry years, this was the first April they would actually class as “wet” since 2022.

In fact, the entire hydrological year so far has been really damp, with 283.5 litres per square metre of rain already recorded since October 1.

This represents 132% of the average for these months and ranks as the ninth highest figure of the 21st century.
