ARCHIVED - Murcia Covid update September 24: a 33-year-old unvaccinated man has died
One fatality was registered in the Region of Murcia on Thursday while the cumulative incidence rate continues to decline
While all of the major coronavirus indicators have continued their decline this week in the Region of Murcia, the local health authorities have released the sad news that a 33-year-old unvaccinated man lost his life on Thursday September 23. The young man, from the Murcia West health area, had no underlying conditions and died from complications derived from pneumonia caused by Covid, according to official sources. His was the only fatality recorded in the Region in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,730. Since the start of the fifth wave, more than 120 deaths have been reported.
Cumulative incidence rate
The incidence in the Region is also continuing on its positive downward trend, now sitting at 83.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, down by almost two points compared with Thursday.
Infections
The latest data show that 90 new cases of coronavirus were reported on Thursday, the first day this week when the number of positives dipped below one hundred. Of the new infections, 31 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 11 to Cartagena, 7 to Cehegín, 6 to Lorca, 5 to Pliego and 5 to Torre Pacheco. The remaining cases are distributed throughout the other municipalities.
There are currently 1,167 active cases of Covid in the Region of Murcia while to date, 137,232 people have fully recovered from the virus.
Hospitalisations
As the incident rate declines and the vast majority of the population are now vaccinated, the pressure on hospitals becomes a more important indicator of the evolution of this wave of the pandemic. The good news is that these numbers are also in remission, with ICU occupancy reducing by half in the last week alone, from 22 patients to 11. The total number of people hospitalised also fell and now stands at 68, 8 fewer than the previous day.
Vaccination data
In the Region of Murcia, 1,128,266 people, representing 74.7% of the population, are now fully immunised against coronavirus while 1,174,183 have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
