ARCHIVED - Murcia hotel industry makes net profits while Spain as a whole flounders
Tourism in Murcia is alive and kicking according to hotel occupancy statistics for October 2021
Hotels in the Region of Murcia received a total of 104,481 guests staying during the month of October 2021, which represents a growth of 127.6% compared to October 2020.
Obviously it’s not hard to beat 2020, the year of lockdown and next to no international travel, but when compared to 2019, this year’s stats are a decrease of only 9.1%. While a decrease may not seem great, it’s better than the 17.1% drop in Spain as a whole that month.
This October’s figures make the Region of Murcia the autonomous community in Spain with the fifth highest growth in hotel profitability, with a rise of 11.4% compared to October 2019, when in the country as a whole there was a drop of 6.1%. This goes to show that Murcia is still an attractive option for holidaymakers coming to Spain.
Of the just over 100,000 people who stayed in Murcian hotels last month, 79,757 of them were residents in Spain and 24,725 came from overseas.
