ARCHIVED - Murcia nun manages to escape from deadly terrorist attack in Mozambique
A missionary from Murcia has escaped alive from a Mozambique terrorist attack this week that killed many people, including an Italian nun
The Murcian nun Ángeles López managed to escape on Tuesday night from a terrorist attack that left several people dead in the town of Nacala, in Mozambique.
According to the Comboni Missionaries, the order to which the nun from Sangonera la Verde (in the outskirts of Murcia city) belonged, the terrorists attacked the community of Chipene, in the diocese of Nacala, where there were hundreds of people fleeing the fighting in the north of the country.
While Ángeles López reportedly managed to escape to a mountain shortly after the terrible events took place, her sister in the order, Italian nun Maria de Coppi, sadly died in the attack.
Moreover, according to some sources, the nun from Murcia managed to flee with several students who were in the area of the attack at the time.
Alongside her was another nun who was also able to escape alive from the attack and hide in a forest with a group of girls.
“The rebels attacked the mission, setting fire to all the parish buildings. Sister Maria de Coppi, an Italian missionary, was shot dead during the ambush,” the Comboni Missionaries explained.
