Murcia steps up street cleaning with fleet of electric sweepers
Murcia City Council assures the new machinery will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of street cleaning

Murcia Council has brought in the big guns to step up street cleaning in the city with the addition of four new electric sweepers to its fleet of resources.
The vehicles incorporate a hoover to collect smaller dirt and a pressurised water pistol, and will replace the traditional manual trolleys with which staff from the concessionary company, PreZero, use a broom and shovel to collect waste and place it into two containers provided.
Unveiling the new sweepers this week, Councillor for Sustainable Mobility and Street Cleaning of the City Council of Murcia, Carmen Fructuoso, promised "the new machinery will vastly improve the city's street cleaning service".
"The new equipment incorporates many improvements for the work of the street cleaning service operators. The vehicles have a larger capacity than the traditional trolleys, a small water tank and a lance to carry out small hydro-cleaning tasks, such as cleaning up after pets.
"The needs of the cleaning service and environmental aspects related to sustainability and energy efficiency have all been taken into account, with the aim of making Murcia city a more peaceful, ecological and environmentally sustainable place," added Fructuoso.
