ARCHIVED - Murcia to request mandatory use of Covid passport at leisure and hospitality venues
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate in Murcia has risen to 251 cases per 100,000 inhabitants
Murcia's Regional Ministry of Health plans to request approval from the High Court of Justice (TSJ) to implement the mandatory use of the Covid passport to enter leisure venues, bars, restaurants and hotels as new coronavirus cases continue to rise.
Back in October, the High Court in Murcia approved the use of Covid certificates in nightclubs, private celebrations and venues that want to increase their maximum occupancy limit to 100%.
But the ruling did not make the Covid passport mandatory, and businesses could choose whether or not to ask customers for proof of vaccination.
However, the new measure will mean the certificate will be mandatory, and provided it's given TSJ approval, will remain in force until at least January 14.
This is the latest measure being taken by the Covid-19 Monitoring Committee in the Region of Murcia following a recent 42% hike in new infections.
According to the latest health data released on Tuesday December 7, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate has reached 251 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
This would normally place the Region at 'high risk', but because there has been no increase in healthcare pressure, Murcia remains at 'medium risk'.
But all the same, there are concerns that Covid cases are continuing to rise, especially amongst children up to the age of 12, an age group that has not yet received any vaccine. Those over 65 years of age are the least infected, according to the Ministry of Health.
