Region of Murcia municipalities will receive €24 million for local works
149 projects will be funded across 45 municipalities between 2026 and 2027, with councils also contributing their own money
The 45 municipalities in the Region of Murcia will receive up to €24 million from the regional government to fund 149 local works projects over the next two years.
The money will be distributed through two programmes covering smaller municipalities as well as rural districts and outlying areas of the Region's four largest municipalities: Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca and Molina de Segura.
The Works and Services Plan will provide €20.6 million for 104 projects requested by local councils in municipalities with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants. The councils themselves will contribute a further €2.6 million, taking the total investment to more than €23 million.
The programme also sets aside 10% of its budget for the eight municipalities with fewer than 5,000 residents, with each receiving an additional €13,775 to help ensure smaller communities aren't left behind when it comes to funding local improvements.
A further €6 million will be provided between 2026 and 2027 through the Rural Districts, Provincial Councils, Peripheral and Deprived Neighbourhoods Plan. The funding will go to Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca and Molina de Segura, with the four councils contributing another €2.4 million from their own budgets.
Murcia will receive almost €2.8 million for 13 projects, while Cartagena will get €1.4 million for four projects. Lorca will have €1.1 million for 22 works and Molina de Segura will receive €672,000 for six projects.
The regional government says the schemes are designed to help municipalities improve local services and infrastructure while ensuring that smaller towns and rural areas have access to investment.
Regional Presidency Minister Marcos Ortuño announced the funding following the first meeting of the regional government's Governing Council after the summer.
