ARCHIVED - Murcia allocates 3.2 million to tourism promotion
The plan is to turn Murcia into a sustainable and intelligent destination for holidaymakers

Murcia has decided to allocate a generous 3.2 million euros from European Next Generation funds to its Tourism Sustainability Plan that will focus on 18 ambitious projects throughout 2023, 2034 and 2025.
Councillor for Tourism Pedro García Rex highlighted that "the main objective of the Murcia Tourism Sustainability Plan is to turn the municipality into a sustainable and intelligent destination, with a diverse offer of tourist products adapted to current market trends, which favours the development of memorable experiences for different segments and to enjoy at any time of the year”.
To meet the objective, a detailed action plan has been developed that will centre around four main stages: green transition and sustainability, energy efficiency, digital transition and competitiveness of the area as a destination for holidaymakers.
The works include, among many others, increasing the number of electric vehicle charging points in the city, improving the energy efficiency of the Almudí Palace and Molinos del Río, the reconditioning of Route 01 - La Aljufía, from Murcia to Contraparada and implementing the Sustainable Mobility Plan at El Valle and Carrascoy Regional Park.
In addition, more than 640,000 euros will also be allocated to develop the immersive experience in Medieval Murcia – Recreation and interpretation of the San Esteban site and the Monteagudo Castle with virtual reality and 3D.
"With these actions we seek the consolidation in our city of an innovative and quality tourism sector, the generation of stable and inclusive employment and increase the quality of life of Murcians", highlighted García Rex.
He added that, after the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the tourism sector is advancing towards a model based on environmental, socioeconomic and territorial sustainability, helping to improve its competitiveness and preparing the sector for major transformations pending in the fields of sustainability and digitisation.
