Murcia on alert for high temps again: Weekend weather forecast August 17-20
The very high temperatures to come this weekend will not last long enough to count as a heatwave, but it will certainly feel like one
Murcia weather warnings, Friday August 18
A yellow weather alert for high temperatures has been issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) for the Region of Murcia on Friday August 18 and Saturday 19, with a warning that the heat could reach up to 38ºC between 1pm and 9pm in the entire province, with the exception of Cartagena and the Mar Menor.
The return of the extremely hot weather to Murcia begins this Thursday, when temperatures in the late afternoon could reach as high as 38ºC in towns like Cieza and Yecla in the north of Murcia.
While the weather warnings are for temperatures to reach this high on Friday and over the weekend, Aemet actually forecasts that it could get up to 41ºC in the centre of the Region. It will stay around the mid-30s in coastal areas, and at night minimum temperatures everywhere in the Region will be around 20-26ºC.
Minimum and maximum temperatures in Murcia, Saturday August 19
The extreme heat will be short-lived, though, and it won’t last long enough to be classed as a heatwave. On Sunday, maximum temps will drop by a couple of degrees, temperatures that will remain stable as we move into next week.
Some high cloud cover is forecast for the weekend, but from Monday onwards this will disappear and we will be left with more bright, sunny, cloudless days.
