New Costa Blanca cycle lane planned for busy Los Montesinos route
The two-kilometre route aims to promote safer and more sustainable travel in the area

A new cycle lane could soon be on the way for a busy stretch of road on the Costa Blanca, as plans move forward in Los Montesinos.
The Alicante Provincial Council has opened the tender process for the design of a two-kilometre bike lane along the CV-943. The proposed route will run from Avenida de La Marquesa to the junction with San Miguel, an area regularly used by cyclists from both the town and nearby communities.
Once completed, the new section will link up with an existing stretch approved last year, which connects the La Marquesa junction to Los Florentiles. Together, the two routes are expected to create a more complete and practical network for cyclists in the area.
Local officials believe the project could make a real difference on a road that sees heavy traffic every day. As well as improving safety, the aim is to encourage more people to consider cycling as part of their daily routine, whether for commuting or leisure.
José Manuel Butrón, Mayor of Los Montesinos, highlighted the wider goals behind the project, saying, “This new bike lane is part of our policies to promote more sustainable, safe, and efficient mobility.”
There is now hope locally that the process will move quickly once the design phase is complete. The council is keen to see construction begin without unnecessary delays, with residents and regular cyclists already viewing the project as a much-needed upgrade for the area.
