ARCHIVED - 9 of the top 200 richest families in Spain are from Murcia
The wealthiest families in Murcia have a combined worth of 7.8 billion euros
Nine Murcian families remain at the top of the annual ranking of the 200 richest families in Spain and have continued to grow their wealth despite the pandemic and a rise in inflation.
The nine elite surnames that appear in the ranking of Spain’s wealthiest people have increased their fortune by more than 500 million euros, now having a combined total wealth of 7.8 billion euros compared to the 7.3 billion they had a year ago.
In comparison, on a national level, members of the millionaire’s club have strengthened their collective bulging bank balances by a whopping 26.5 billion euros.
At the top of the table regionally is: Tomás Olivo (pictured), the promoter and largest shareholder of General de Galerías Comerciales (GGC), one of the most important Spanish groups in the country, with 2.6 billion euros. He is followed by Tomás Fuertes of food manufacturer Grupo Fuertes (1.8 billion), whilst Francisco Montoro and family (GMP) occupy third place (760 million).
The list in descending order continues with: the owners of Primafrio, Juan and José Esteban Conesa Alcaraz (745 million); Encarna Piñero García and family of Soltur (580 million), the Vivancos Muñoz family of Tefim (390 million); José Francisco Moreno Riquelme, Soltec (315 million); José García Carrión (300 million) and Antonio and Álvaro Muñoz of AMC Fruits (285 million).
Murcia’s richest family to appear on the list is that of Tomás Olivo from Cartagena in 12th place nationally, with the same net wealth as a year ago.
However, in 25th place, Tomás Fuertes, president of the Fuertes Group which owns meat company El Pozo, and his family from Alhama de Murcia, has increased his wealth by 125 million in 12 months.
Meanwhile, in 73rd place nationally, Francisco Montoro Alemán and his family, major shareholders of the real estate company GMP Inversiones, have seen their assets increase nicely by 10 million euros.
