ARCHIVED - No generalised alcohol shortage expected in Spain this Christmas
The government in Spain has admitted that certain brands may be limited
The Spanish government has dismissed the possibility of a shortage of alcoholic beverages over the Christmas period due to the global supply shortage, after it was reported that certain brands of gin, vodka and champagne would be hard to get hold of.
Major distributors in Spain have refuted these claims and the administration has assured that "the supply of this type of product is guaranteed in Spain" during the festive season, when alcohol is in high demand due to family gatherings and work parties.
A letter issued by the government acknowledged that “a temporary bottleneck in world trade is taking place due to the pull of global aggregate demand”, which has had “a specific impact on the production of certain raw materials”.
But while an overall shortage of booze isn’t anticipated, the powers that be have confirmed that this “bottleneck in logistics” could result in the temporary scarcity of some brands of alcoholic beverage.
