Notorious Italian drug lord hunted down in Benidorm
The infamous trafficker was wanted all over Europe before he was tracked to southern Spain
A Europe-wide manhunt has come to an end with the sensational arrest of a 38-year-old Italian drug lord in Benidorm. The infamous criminal, who was wanted for narcotic trafficking offences across the continent, was found hiding out in a quiet apartment complex in the Alicante tourist hotspot.
According to a statement issued by the National Police in Spain, the fugitive was the subject of a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) issued by Italy. Once extradited from the Costa Blanca, he faces 24 years behind bars if convicted of being the leader of a criminal gang dedicated to large-scale drug smuggling.
Once police received a tip-off that the Italian was holed up in a Benidorm flat, they raided the property and promptly arrested the wanted man.
According to the Italian indictment, the suspect is apparently the head of a criminal group dedicated to drug trafficking and is being investigated for the recurrent purchase and distribution of marijuana and cocaine.
The detainee has been placed at the disposal of the Central Investigation Courts of the National Court.
