ARCHIVED - One dead in Murcia due to the flooding
The floods that hit Murcia this weekend have claimed at least one life
At least one person has been reported dead in the Region of Murcia as a result of the heavy rains and flooding this weekend.
In Javalí Viejo, in central Murcia, the man thought to be of around 60-years-old lost his life in the early hours of Monday morning after the downpour of water that hit the town last night flooded several houses.
The body was found this Monday, floating around 300 metres from his house. According to municipal sources, the water entered the ground-floor of the home at around 2am and dragged away the man, who was sleeping on the sofa at the time.
The mayor of Murcia, José Antonio Serrano, has expressed his condolences on his official Twitter account for the death: “Last night a heavy storm caused serious problems in the municipality. Unfortunately, we have to mourn the death of one person. I would like to express my deepest condolences. The municipal services are working hard to restore normality as soon as possible.”
