Orihuela Costa driver flips his car before fleeing the scene
The motorist smashed into a parked car on a residential street in Playa Flamenca
Residents of Playa Flamenca on Alicante's Orihuela Costa were met with incredible scenes on Tuesday morning, June 4, when a car sped along Calle Limón way over the speed limit and smashed into a parked vehicle, before completely flipping over and landing on the hood.
Incredibly, the driver of the grey saloon wasn’t incapacitated, but was able to climb from his overturned car, visibly injured and bleeding. But rather than waiting around for the police to arrive, the motorist abandoned his car and fled up the street in the direction of Carrefour.
The accident occurred next to the Orange Padel Spain complex at 9am, right around the time hundreds of parents were dropping their children to the nearby school.
Two fire crews attended the scene and removed the offending vehicle.
The speed limit on this stretch of road is only 30 kilometres per hour but dozens of residents took to social media complaining of the reckless driving that’s witnessed here on a daily basis, with one local describing Calle Limón as “a racetrack”.
