Orihuela Costa to fix long-forgotten tourist signposts
The crumbling, vandalised signs will be replaced as part of a long-overdue upgrade in Orihuela Costa

Visitors to Orihuela Costa who’ve found themselves squinting at rotted or graffiti-covered signs may soon have an easier time getting around. As part of a long-awaited improvement project, Orihuela City Council has launched a €288,000 plan to overhaul the area’s urban tourist signage.
The initiative, part of Orihuela’s Sustainable Tourism Destination Plan, aims to help drivers, especially holidaymakers, navigate the coastal area more safely and confidently.
According to officials, the existing signs are in such poor condition that they’ve essentially lost all functionality, often leaving tourists guessing or making last-minute turns.
The new signs will guide drivers toward key destinations like Alicante and Cartagena along the N-332, as well as other points of interest throughout Orihuela Costa. Some signs will be standalone, while others will be paired on shared posts depending on their location.
Beyond simply pointing the way, the upgrade will introduce a more unified and coherent design throughout the area, helping to reduce confusion and hesitation behind the wheel.
Works will include replacing broken or missing signs and installing entirely new ones in previously unmarked spots. The full installation is expected to take five months once work begins.
With thousands of visitors arriving every year, especially in summer, the investment is being welcomed as a much-needed step toward improving Orihuela Costa’s infrastructure and keeping its roads safer for everyone.
