ARCHIVED - Orihuela presents its summer beach safety plan
Police and rescue services have been stepped up along Orihuela Costa in the Vega Baja, Alicante province.
Orihuela has unveiled its summer safety plan which will see police and rescue services stepped up along the coastline for the next few months to ensure the safety of locals and tourists.
The summer and rescue and lifeguard service is now in operation on Orihuela's 11 Blue Flag beaches with lifeguards and emergency health technicians supported by a rapid intervention vehicle, an SBV ambulance and a boat, working in partnership with the Local Police.
In addition, four officers from the Maritime Police in Orihuela Costa have been equipped with two jet skis, with others assigned to foot and bicycle units, patrolling the coastal area from Punta Prima to Mil Palmeras.
As in previous years, the aim of the summer security plan is to strengthen and ensure safety along Orihuela Costa, "so that locals and tourists feel completely safe on our beaches, especially this summer when it seems that the pandemic is giving us a break to enjoy a well-deserved vacation after a very hard year".
Orihuela Costa has 18 km of coastline with an enviable offering of beaches including: Punta Prima, Cala Mosca, Mil Palmeras, Flamenca, Capitán, Caleta, Aguamarina, la Glea, Barranco Rubio, Cala Estaca and Cala Cerrada.
The latter is ideal for surfers and beach regulations have been modified to encourage surfing in the municipality, while Orihuela's first dog beach has been opened at Cala Mosca.
