If you’re planning a trip in Spain this year it might be worth setting the alarm early on March 1, as low-cost high-speed rail operator Ouigo is putting 1.7 million train tickets on sale at 9am.

The passes will start at as little as 9 euros each way for adults and will be valid for travel between July 11 and December 9, 2023.

Since its arrival in Spain on May 10 of 2021, Ouigo has already transported almost 5 million passengers on its two operating lines to date, Madrid-Barcelona, with stops in Zaragoza and Tarragona, and Madrid-Valencia.

At the moment, the rail company runs five daily round trips between Madrid’s Atocha station and Barcelona-Sants, in addition to three runs between Madrid-Chamartín-Clara Campoamor and Valencia-Joaquín Sorolla.

Determined to create strong competition with Spain’s two other operators Renfe and Iryo, Ouigo has announced a new Alicante-Madrid connection from summer 2023. To celebrate this milestone, last month the company ran its ever-popular 'Pink Day' cut-price ticket promotion between Valencia, Madrid and Barcelona.

Once the Alicante route is up and running, Ouigo plans to reach Andalusia with 5 round trips (10 journeys) to Seville, Malaga and Cordoba.

“These 1.7 million new tickets represent another step towards our goal of democratizing the use of high speed in Spain and encouraging travelers who previously could not afford it to opt for the most sustainable mode of travel that exists, which it pollutes 80 and 50 times less than planes and cars, respectively", explained its Sales and Marketing Director, Federico Pareja.
