ARCHIVED - Passenger locator forms here to stay
People travelling from Spain to the UK will still have to complete the form even as restrictions are relaxed
Boris Johnson is set to scrap the vast majority of the UK’s Covid restrictions as part of his Living With Covid plan when he addresses the nation on Monday February 21, but for the immediate future at least, passenger locator forms look set to stay for people travelling between Britain and Spain.
While the health situation is improving steadily in both countries, Covid experts in the UK are still wary of the emergence of new variants and so believe it is essential to retain a measure which allows travel status to be monitored. On the other hand, the locator form was greatly simplified earlier this month for fully vaccinated passengers, who only need to confirm their inoculation status, travel history and contact details.
Ahead of today’s press conference, Mr Johnson said: “Covid will not suddenly disappear, and we need to learn to live with this virus and continue to protect ourselves without restricting our freedoms”. Nevertheless, certain measures, including mask-wearing on flights, look likely to be around for quite some time.

"We've built up strong protections against this virus over the past two years through the vaccine rollouts, tests, new treatments, and the best scientific understanding of what this virus can do.
"Thanks to our successful vaccination programme and the sheer magnitude of people who have come forward to be jabbed, we are now in a position to set out our plan for living with Covid this week," the Prime Minister added.
Currently, fully vaccinated travellers must complete the rather cumbersome passenger locator form prior to arrival in the UK, while unvaccinated people must also show proof of a negative test
Officials have confirmed that Monday's plan will maintain "resilience against future variants with ongoing surveillance capabilities".
