Playa del Espejo in Los Alcázares recognized as a highly equipped accessible beach
The regional government elevates the level of compliance as a reward for the council’s efforts
The Mar Menor municipality of Los Alcázares continues to strive to make more and more areas of the town fully accessible to those of limited mobility and the central beach of El Espejo has been recognized as one of the leading examples by the regional government’s 2026 Beach Accessibility program.
This is perhaps the best example of the great efforts made by the council in recent years to improve accessibility to the beaches, and the installations at Playa del Espejo have been updated and improved in preparation for the summer of 2026. The Punto Accesible has been fully renovated, numerous toilets specifically for those of limited mobility have been installed all along the coastline, new amphibious bathing chairs have been provided, along with sun loungers and other items which assist bathers, flexible beach walkways have been installed, signposting has been upgraded, reserved shaded areas have been renovated, and accessible foot showers have been placed in easy-to-reach locations, among other measures.
Councillor María José Díaz, who heads the Tourism department in the Town Hall, explains that these measures are just part of a wide-ranging plan to make year-round bathing accessible to as many people as possible, and that recognition in the FAMDIF report compiled for the regional tourist board (ITREM) is a satisfying reward for the efforts made.
