ARCHIVED - Plenoil closes two filling stations in Murcia due to lack of fuel
The service stations affected by the fuel shortage are located in Cartagena and La Unión
The indefinite strike by freight carriers in Spain is causing no end of disruption in the Region of Murcia, where more than a hundred protesting vehicles clogged up the roads last week and caused miles of motorway tailbacks.
Now, the dispute has somewhat inevitably spilled over onto the Region’s filling stations, and Plenoil has been forced to shut two of its premises on Monday March 21 due to fuel shortages.
The company has nine filling stations in Murcia, and for the time being, the building on Avenida Tito Didio in Cartagena and the one in the Plaza de Los Sánchez in La Unión have had no choice but to shut up shop as deliveries of petrol and diesel are delayed.
On Sunday, Plenoil also temporarily closed some of its supply points in other localities in Spain like Avilés, Ciudad Real and Albacete due to fuel shortages, a situation which the company hopes will resolve itself in the coming days following a meeting between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Transport and Finance and the National Committee for Road Transport (CNTC).
There is hardly a sector in Spain which hasn’t been affected by the transport strike, now in its seventh day, with retail giant Lidl closing two stores at the weekend due to a lack of produce.
