Police in Spain launch sea search for missing rugby star Levi Davis
Investigators believe the young British man may have accidentally drowned in Barcelona
The Mossos d’Esquadra, the Police force in Barcelona, launched a maritime search of the Barcelona Port on Thursday May 18 for any trace of Levi Davis, a 24-year-old rugby player and former X Factor contestant who went missing on October 29 while on holiday in Spain.
Investigators now believe the young man may have drowned after falling into the sea on October 30, following reports from the crew of a cruise ship that a person was spotted in the water at around 6.30am.
The Guardia Civil have checked the security cameras on the ship and have also determined that the alarm on the sensor which detects falls hadn’t been activated, so it’s unlikely Levi was a passenger. The ship’s company, MSC, carried out a head count and confirmed that no one was missing and the search was called off the following day.
Since then, four witnesses have come forward claiming they heard a man shouting for help in English on that date, and that the person in the water was wearing a white T-shirt similar to the one Levi was wearing the last time he was seen alive. The missing man was picked up on CCTV leaving ‘The Old Irish Pub’ at 10pm on October 29 after watching part of the Liverpool-Leeds match and sipping a pint of Heineken.
From there, Levi made his way towards the Plaza Cataluña while checking his phone, and not a trace has been found since.
Police later discovered Levi had returned to the Port, where he had arrived the morning he disappeared on a ferry from Ibiza. Now, the sea search continues with Catalan investigating officers hoping to locate any indication that the British man may have drowned.
