ARCHIVED - Police warn that burglars in Spain are using new trick to tell whether homes are occupied
The latest method that thieves are using to see whether properties in Spain are empty or not is harder to spot than previous tricks
The National Police force has warned on social media this weekend that prospective burglars and squatters have come up with a new way to pinpoint targets.
The trick consists of putting a tiny string of glue between the door and the door frame and returning a few days later to see if it’s still there. This method, the police warn, is harder to spot than previous ones such as leaving a bit of plastic slotted between the door and frame, meaning owners and neighbours are less likely to notice and call the authorities.

Squatting has become a huge problem in Spain, and the coronavirus pandemic has worsened the situation as many holiday homes owners have been unable to get to their properties. The police recommend installing alarms, always making sure doors and windows are closed and properly locked and calling 091 if any strange signs or symbols appear outside homes.
