ARCHIVED - Public transport prices in Murcia slashed by 30 per cent from September
The reduction will be applied to bus and tram tickets in Murcia
Users of public transport in Murcia city will pay 30% less for their bus and metro passes from September 1 thanks to direct aid from the Spanish government as part of its crisis plan for the war in Ukraine.
Through this measure, the central government hopes to promote sustainable mobility and the use of public transport, and the Ministry of Transport in Murcia is developing several plans that will significantly improve these services.
With Next Generation funds, the local authorities will build 43 kilometres of fully segregated bus lanes in Murcia along with 44 kilometres of bike lanes, which will generate 100 new kilometres of bicycle paths in the municipality.
In addition, the government will create more than 2,400 spaces in six new park-and-ride facilities, representing an increase of 178%.
All this will happen in conjunction with the 2023 collective public transport network in Murcia, which will create new bus routes, employ more ecological vehicles, reduce travel time and introduce new payment methods for public transport.
