ARCHIVED - Region of Murcia experiences a fourth COVID outbreak relating to nightlife
In just over a week, the Region of Murcia has experienced four coronavirus outbreaks, with the latest originating from a club in La Manga, Cartagena.
Murcia’s Regional Minister of Health, Juan José Pedreño, has announced a fourth outbreak of the coronavirus in the region after a party at a club in La Manga, Cartagena registered 27 positive cases.
This outbreak follows those that originated from the Bali Club discotheque in Los Alcázares, from the students who took an end of year trip to Mallorca and from a celebration in Mulu, which has led to another 21 infections so far.
The outbreak at the Bali Club nightclub in Los Narejos, in the municipality of Los Alcázares, has risen to 102 and has contributed to a significant spike in covid positive cases in the region.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, July 8 following a Covid Committee meeting, Pedreño stated that "the misuse of masks at entertainment venues and parties are behind the recent increase."
"I call on the entire population, especially young people, to take responsibility. Something as simple as the correct use of a mask can prevent infection," added Pedreño.
