Renfe and Adif unions announce seven-day strike over Rodalies transfer
Industrial action planned between March and April - dates of the strikes and minimum services in Malaga
The Rodalies service refers to the regional commuter trains operating within Catalonia. The recent decision to transfer control of these services from the national operator, Renfe, to the Catalan government has sparked concerns among union representatives. They argue that this move could lead to a deterioration in service quality, compromise safety standards and result in the covert privatisation of freight transport.
Strike Schedule
The unions have outlined the following dates and times for the planned strikes:
- Monday March 17: From midnight to 11.59 p.m.
- Wednesday March 19: 6.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m., 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m., and 9.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m.
- Monday March 24: From 6.30 to 9.30 a.m., from 2.30 to 5.30 p.m., and from 8.30 to 10.30 p.m.
- Wednesday March 26: From midnight to 11.59 p.m.
- Friday March 28: 6.00 to 9.00 a.m., 1.30 to 4.30 p.m., and 8.30 to 11.00 p.m.
- Tuesday April 1: From midnight to 11.59 p.m.
- Thursday April 3: From 6.30 to 9.30 a.m., from 2.30 to 5.30 p.m., and from 9.00 to 11.00 p.m.
Minimum Services
To mitigate the impact on passengers, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has established mandatory minimum services during the strike days:
- Commuter Services (Cercanías): 75% of usual services during peak hours and 50% during off-peak times
- Medium-Distance Trains: 65% of regular services
- High-Speed and Long-Distance Trains: 72% of standard operations
- Freight Services: 24% of typical services
Impact on Málaga
In Málaga, the strike is expected to affect all rail services, including commuter (Cercanías), medium-distance and long-distance trains. Passengers are advised to check the updated schedules and anticipate possible cancellations or delays on the specified strike days.
Advice for Passengers
Travellers planning to use Renfe services during the strike period should:
- Stay Informed: Regularly check Renfe's official channels for the latest updates on train schedules and potential disruptions.
- Plan Ahead: Consider alternative transportation options or adjust travel plans to accommodate possible delays or cancellations.
- Allow Extra Time: If travel is unavoidable on strike days, allocate additional time for the journey to account for any unforeseen changes.
The unions have expressed their willingness to negotiate and are urging the government to address their concerns to prevent further industrial action. Passengers are encouraged to monitor the situation closely and remain adaptable to any developments.
