Ryanair opens new base in Spain with bumper winter flight programme
The Lanzarote Airport base will operate 40 routes throughout the winter season
Ryanair has announced the opening of a new base at Lanzarote Airport and the largest flight schedule ever for the coming winter season with no fewer than 40 routes.
These include new links with Belfast, Bremen, Knock, Milan, Nuremberg and Zagreb, and the increase of frequencies on nine other city break routes, including Dublin, Berlin, Madrid and Vienna. With these flights, Lanzarote’s air traffic will grow to 2.1 million passengers in 2024.
To support this record programming, the Irish low cost company will base three aircraft on the Canary Island, which represents an investment of 300 million dollars (282.8 million euros) and the creation of more than 1,600 jobs.
"This strong schedule offers Lanzarote customers and visitors an unbeatable selection of routes with the lowest fares to book their winter getaways, while also boosting the island's economy and tourism year-round, which directly depends on connectivity," Ryanair said in a statement.
“This significant investment demonstrates Ryanair's commitment to Lanzarote and continued confidence in the Spanish market, which is a direct result of the airline's close working relationships with key stakeholders in Spain," Manager of Ryanair for Spain and Portugal, Elena Cabrera, added.
Operating more than 545 routes in Spain this winter, Ms Cabrera pointed out that Ryanair is the first airline in the country in terms of traffic, transporting more than 54 million passengers each year in its fleet of 76 fixed aircraft.
To date, the company has invested 7.156.5 million euros in its Spanish bases and has created more than 300,000 jobs.
Ryanair "pledges to continue growing and developing in the Canary Islands through ongoing collaboration with partner airports, the government, the hotel industry, and local tourism organizations to promote the Canaries and make the islands an even more attractive destination for holidaymakers," Ms Cabrera concluded.
