Safety boost for Torrevieja street market as ambulance service introduced on Fridays
The emergency services will be available at the hugely popular Antonio Soria Park market from April 24

Torrevieja’s massively popular Friday street market is set to have its own ambulance service on site from April 24, in a move aimed at improving safety and giving faster medical support during busy market days.
The local council confirmed the decision this week, explaining that the change has been made due to the high number of visitors, traders and workers who fill the Antonio Soria Park area every Friday, particularly during the summer months when temperatures rise and crowds increase.
Councillor for Markets Antonio Vidal and Councillor for Public Health Rosa Cañón said the addition of a dedicated ambulance will help ensure a quicker response to any incidents, with the service able to provide immediate assistance and carry out transfers to health centres if needed.
The ambulance will be a Basic Life Support unit and will be present every Friday, or on the rescheduled market day if it is moved due to weather conditions. It will operate from 9am to 1.30pm within the market grounds.
The council explained that while most incidents at the market tend to be minor, such as dizziness, low blood pressure, minor injuries or heat-related issues, the volume of people means rapid medical attention can make a real difference.
Officials also pointed out that the combination of large crowds and high temperatures during peak season increases the likelihood of health problems, which is why a permanent on-site resource has been introduced.
The city council said the new measure represents a “significant reinforcement” of safety at one of Torrevieja’s busiest weekly events, which attracts thousands of people each Friday.
