San Pedro del Pinatar pumps 3 million euros into improving tourism
The plan includes remodelling San Pedro’s streets and parks and the creation of smart beaches

San Pedro del Pinatar’s Tourism Sustainability Plan has this week been awarded a budget of three million euros, 1.9 million euros of which will come from EU funds. The money will be delivered in three annual instalments and will be given in addition to the award for Blue Tourism Destination of the Region of Murcia 2023.
The main objective of the plan is to promote tourism in San Pedro by improving in the areas of digitisation, smart systems and sustainability.
Given that the municipality is primarily a sun and beach destination, the biggest investment will be made in this area. The council plans to create smart beaches with UVA sensors that collect weather data, surveillance drones, smart parking systems and buoys that can relay information on the quality of the water.
Outside of the high season, the plan will promote new activities like sailing, thalassotherapy, fishing tourism, active-sports tourism and family-orientated events that can be enjoyed year-round.
Much attention will be paid to the Regional Park, where the car parks will be reorganised to alleviate traffic congestion and the Post-Life Salinas project will be launched to ensure the conservation and maintenance of the green area.
Among other measures, the ever-popular Lo Pagán esplanade will be renovated and the network of bike lanes will be expanded. At the same time, a new beach surveillance system will be set up and new water rescue equipment will be purchased.
The joint action Blue Tourism destination of the Region of Murcia 2023 is focused on generating a network of blue trails, both pedestrian and bicycle, in Los Alcázares, Cartagena, Mazarrón, San Javier, Águilas, and San Pedro del Pinatar.
