ARCHIVED - Second body retrieved from the rubble after building collapse in Peñiscola
The woman died along with her stepson while her son remains in serious condition in hospital
A minute’s silence will be observed at midday on Friday August 27 in Peñíscola, in the province of Castellón, in memory of the two people who lost their lives when an apartment complex partially collapsed on Wednesday in the residential area of Font Nova.
The loss of a second life was confirmed on Thursday evening when the dead body of a woman was located under the rubble. She had perished in the disaster but her mobile phone was still sufficiently charged for rescue workers to hear a ring tone, and within half an hour they had found her, although unfortunately it was too late to save her life.
It had already been confirmed that the tragedy had resulted in the death of a 14-year-old boy – the stepson of the second victim - while his 26-year-old half-brother was rescued from the remains of the building but remains in serious condition in the Hospital Comarcal de Vinaròs.
