ARCHIVED - Self-employed who register in Murcia next year will pay zero social security
New financial measures will benefit around 5,000 ‘autonomos’ in the Region of Murcia
Business owners and the would-be self employed, or autonomo, received a huge boost today (October 21) as the Comprehensive Strategy for Self-Employment 2022-2025 was signed by the president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras.
The most radical aspect involves people who newly register as self-employed next year, as they’ll have to pay zero social security contributions.
The document, which was agreed with the main employers’ unions, includes 55 measures aimed at the training, digitization and incorporation of entrepreneurs into self-employment and has an endowment of 140 million over four years.
At the moment, unemployed people under the age of 30 and the long-term unemployed who go autonomo are given a two-year break from social security fees. In 2023, the ‘Zero Quota’ budget will be tripled, going from 3.2 million euros to 10.8 million, and will equally benefit all newly self-employed.
The 102,800 self-employed in the Region of Murcia represent 17% of all Social Security contributors and 15% of the regional Gross Domestic Product. López Miras stated today that it is "more than 100,000 families that are raising this Region day by day, with their effort and sacrifice, and that in 2023 they will start a new contribution system."
The current business owner "needs and demands economic security that today is not guaranteed in Spain,” the president added. The strategy is also a timely one, he said, given the pressures that the economic crisis places on entrepreneurs and should contribute to the incorporation of new self-employed workers to the market.
During the summer, the Spanish government agreed on new quotas aimed at benefiting the lower income self-employed. From next year, it’s estimated that the measure will lower the fee to some 60,000 of the 103,000 workers in the Region, while 25% will pay more.
