September 30 STOP Biogas Mazarrón protest rally

Community organisers call for residents to join the demonstration against the proposed industrial facility

Local community groups are organising a protest rally next Tuesday September 30 against the proposed biogas plant in Mazarrón, aimed at reminding politicians in Mazarrón that they have a responsibility to consult their constituents.

Organisers are seeking widespread community support and encouraging residents to mark the date in their calendars. They believe that with collective action, the facility can be relocated to its rightful place in an industrial area.

Posters and information flyers will be made available shortly at various locations throughout Camposol. Protesters are encouraged to create their own placards for the demonstration, though organisers expect to have some available on the day.

Recommended messages for placards include: STOP BIOGAS MAZARRON, DETENER EL BIOGAS MAZARRON and MOVE IT.

The campaign calls for visible displays in houses, shop windows and on walls featuring the same message. Simple materials like cardboard, old sheets or paper can be used to create these displays and the message will hopefully show the widespread opposition to the plant's proposed location.

AVC is coordinating bus transportation for those without personal transport, with pickup points planned for sectors A, B, C and D on Camposol. Further details regarding timing will be provided as the date approaches. Return tickets will be sold for €3.

Those with access to personal vehicles are encouraged to share transport with others, allowing buses to serve residents who have no alternative transportation options.

The successful opposition to the Lorca Biogas plant is clear evidence that grassroots community action can be effective. This campaign seeks participation from residents across Camposol, MCC, and Mazarrón, while also highlighting that neighbouring communities including El Paretón, Cañada de Romero, Condado de Alhama, Leyva, Mazarrón and El Saladilo do not want the plant on their doorstep.
