Settled weather set to return: Spain forecast September 12-15
Spain will face another couple of chilly, wet days before the sun returns
Weather outlook on Friday afternoon
A new season is just around the corner but over the last couple of days, there has been a definite autumnal chill in the air, particularly in the early mornings. That’s thanks to a cold front that arrived from the north and the remains of a high-altitude depression hanging around in the south.
Temperatures have already dropped significantly in many parts of Spain and the mercury will continue its downward trajectory as we head for the weekend. Widespread rain, storms and even some snow on the mountains are forecast but this wintery weather will be short-lived, and things should pick up again very soon.
For now though, Thursday September 12 will be very overcast in the north of the country where the rain will be heavy, and the showers have a good chance of spreading to the Mediterranean coast and the Balearic Islands.
Daytime temperatures will increase in the southern half of the Mediterranean area and the Gulf of Cádiz, but the thermometers will continue to fall elsewhere, and the keen-eyed could spot some snow on the highest peaks of the Pyrenees.
The cloud cover will spread further on Friday September 13, extending the showers to large parts of the Mediterranean, and the rain could be especially heavy during the morning on the coasts of Murcia and Almería. As the hours go by, the rainfall will tend to subside.
Apart from a few exceptions in the northwest and southwest, the temperatures will fall again, and in most parts of Spain the mercury won’t push past the mid to high 20s.
The weather will start to settle on Saturday September 14 although the skies will remain fairly overcast in much of the Mediterranean, and this will again lead to weak and scattered showers in the Strait of Gibraltar, Murcia and Almería.
Maximum temperatures will fall in Andalucía and rise in the northern half of the country and the Balearic Islands.
Northerly and easterly winds could turn blustery along the coasts, and Andalucía has been issued with a yellow warning for rough seas on Saturday.
We should be back to stable weather by Sunday September 15 and most of Spain will remain dry and partly cloudy, with the exception of some drizzle in the Strait.
Daytime temperatures will start to creep up again across the board but the mercury will shoot up by several degrees in the southeast, especially inland. The breeze will still be fairly strong in coastal areas, although no weather alerts have been activated.
