Spain Christmas weather forecast December 21-26
Christmas week in Spain will be bright and sunny with very little rain on the horizon
Weather outlook on Christmas Day
Spain has been experiencing the perfect run-up to Christmas weather-wise and the good news is that the dry, sunny days and crisp nights look set to continue throughout the festive period.
The rest of the week will be rather chilly with temperatures dipping below 20ºC for the most part, but any rain forecast should be confined to the extreme north of the country.
Thursday December 21
A humid air flow from the north will bring some heavy cloud cover and scattered rain to parts of Cantabria and the Pyrenees, but the rest of Spain will continue the trend of previous days and remain mostly bright and sunny.
Daytime temperatures will increase everywhere aside from the extreme southeast, hitting the mid-20s in much of the Canary Islands.
However, strong gusts in the middle of the day have given rise to yellow weather warnings for rough seas in several regions, including the Balearic Islands, Asturias, Cantabria, Catalonia, the Basque Country, Galicia and the Valencian Community.
Friday December 22
The showers will extend to the Canary Islands on Friday but the rest of Spain should be mostly clear or slightly cloudy after an overcast start early on.
Following a rather chilly day on Thursday, the mercury should climb noticeably in the southeast, although heavy fog will persist in the north and pull the temperatures down.
Due to the strong gusts, weather warnings have again been issued in Asturias, Aragon, Cantabria, Catalonia, Galicia, the Basque Country and the Valencian Community.
Saturday December 23
The anticyclone will remain intact on Saturday, creating a day with mostly clear skies everywhere but the Cantabrian coast and the Pyrenees, where some weak rainfall could make and appearance.
Very few changes are expected temperature-wise although the frosts will extend to southeast Spain.
Sunday December 24 (Christmas Eve)
Christmas Eve will be mostly bright and sunny with very little rain, although the early morning and evening will be more overcast in the southwest of the country. Some stormy intervals are forecast in the Canary Islands, especially in the west.
Temperatures will rise in the mountain areas and fall in the northern highlands and in the depressions of the northeast, where the fog will persist, but few changes are expected elsewhere.
Monday December 25 (Christmas Day)
While there’s still a margin of uncertainty this far ahead, the pleasant winter weather should continue on Christmas Day with a predominance of slightly cloud or clear skies.
Temperatures will drop along the Atlantic coast but the mercury should climb by a degree or two in the Mediterranean, as well as in the Balearic and Canary Islands.
Tuesday December 26
Boxing Day will likely dawn a lot more frosty than previous days and there’s a good chance of rain along the Atlantic and Cantabrian coasts. These showers could also stretch as far as the Mediterranean area but any rain that arrives will be weak and scattered.
Daytime temperatures will likely fall across the board, failing to rise above the mid teens in most areas.
