ARCHIVED - Spain on the horizon of de-escalation: Covid update March 1
A Ministry technical error has led to a delay in the publication of some coronavirus data in Spain
For the second time in as many months, the Ministry of Health in Spain has failed to publish updated coronavirus data corresponding to Monday February 28 due to unspecified technical problems, which the authorities hope to be “able to solve in the next few hours”.
Despite this, both President Sánchez and the Health Minister, Carolina Darias, released hopeful messages on Monday that the end of the pandemic is nigh, reporting that the latest figures show that the cumulative incidence rate is moving out of the danger zone and approaching 600 cases.
Speaking ahead of the meeting of the Public Health Committee on Tuesday, where Covid experts are expected to scrap quarantine for unvaccinated close contacts, President Sánchez also hinted for the second time that mask-wearing indoors will soon be a thing of the past.
“When we make that decision [to eliminate the obligation of the mask in closed spaces], which we are going to make very soon, I think it is important that we do it with the scientific community and those responsible for health and with the consensus of the autonomous communities,” Mr Sánchez said, adding that “we are on a horizon of de-escalation, of overcoming the pandemic.”
