ARCHIVED - Spain to allow unvaccinated British tourists within a matter of days
The Ministry of Tourism in Spain plans to scrap the Covid passport requirement for unvaccinated third country visitors
In a surprise move by the ever-cautious Spanish government, the Minister of Tourism, Reyes Maroto, announced on Thursday May 19 that “in a matter of days” Spain will stop requiring tourists from outside the European Union to present a Covid vaccination certificate, and that instead they will be able to travel to Spain with a negative test.
The news, which will come as a welcome relief to British tourists, follows a request earlier this week from Europe that countries scrap their remaining coronavirus restrictions, including Covid passports, to once again allow free travel ahead of the summer season.
And just last weekend, the Spanish government extended its restrictions for non-EU travel until June 15, meaning that UK holidaymakers would only be allowed to enter Spain if they were double jabbed or had recovered from Covid in the past 6 months.

“It will be a matter of days before we are going to eliminate a restriction that could be discouraging tourists from outside the European Union from visiting us, and that is that we are going to stop requiring the vaccination certificate to allow them to enter with a negative test,” Ms Maroto confirmed.
If her plan comes to fruition, tourists from the UK and other third countries will freely be able to travel to Spain this summer even if they are not fully vaccinated, once they test negative for coronavirus prior to arrival.
