This is essentially the Mediaeval Market with a different ambience

This year Cartagena is celebrating its “Year of Modenist Architecture” in the city, the Año del Modernismo, co-inciding with the 100th anniversary of the Grand Hotel. For this reason, the traditional Mediaeval Market normally held at the beginning of November has been re-themed and this year is a Modernist Market instead, the Mercado Modernista.

All of the artisans remain the same, with a huge selection of artisan products to choose from, spread out across the centre of the old quarter, the atmosphere enlivened by 131 mini spectaculars, including musicians moving through the market, puppets, acrobatics, and mini theatrical performances with characters of the epoch performing in different places.

A falconry point is installed in Plaza de San Francisco and there are camel, pony and donkey rides available for attendees, as well as plenty of food and refreshment available for weary shoppers.

The market is open from 10am to 3pm and then again from 5pm to 11pm every day.

The market can be accessed via various different points, and is fairly easy to find; just follow the crowds!

As this market is generally pretty crowded, caution should always be observed at these events with wallets and purses, the best advice being not to carry anything unnecessarily and don´t carry a handbag if you can possibly avoid it.
